Democrats Remain Comfortably Ahead
Although Trump is only slightly underwater on key issues, his opponents hold a strong lead on the generic ballot
New polling from AtlasIntel suggests the Democrats are performing well on the generic ballot, even though Trump remains above water on certain issues.
When asked to rate Trump’s handling of a range of topics, respondents gave him negative marks on most major issues. His weakest area is trade and tariffs, where 54% say he is doing a terrible or poor job and only 43% say he is doing an excellent or good job.
His strongest areas are immigration and, perhaps ironically, safeguarding democracy. On both issues, he holds a slim lead of +4%.
On healthcare, however, Trump is underwater, with 47% rating his performance positively and 49% negatively.
Despite Trump being competitive on a few key issues, Democrats continue to dominate the generic ballot. The latest AtlasIntel survey shows Democrats at 52%, Republicans at 44%, and another 4% unsure of who they would support if an election were held today.
The Democrats have a commanding lead among Black voters, with 76% backing them compared to 24% for Republicans. Among Hispanic voters, Democrats lead 55% to 41%.
White voters are almost evenly split, with Democrats narrowly ahead at 49% to 48%, making this the Republicans’ strongest demographic, despite being behind.
Partisan loyalty remains strong, with 93% of Democrats and 92% of Republicans sticking with their own party. Among independents, however, Democrats lead decisively, 63% to 27%, which would lead to the Republicans getting completely thrashed, if accurate.
Now, let’s delve deeper into this poll and see how the two parties stack up, alongside what issues Americans support or oppose.
