Republican's Best Chances In Georgia? Marjorie Taylor Greene
If they want to easily lose the Senate race, that is.
New polling out of Georgia paints a rosy picture for Senator Jon Ossoff, should Governor Kemp not enter next year’s senate election.
AJC Politics asked Georgians whether they approve or disapprove of Governor Kemp, Senator Ossoff, and President Trump. Among the three, Brian Kemp has the highest approval rating at 61%, while only 33% disapprove of his job as governor.
Jon Ossoff’s approvals are less impressing than Kemp’s, though he still sits at a 48% approval rating, with a slightly larger share of Georgians disapproving of his job at 36%. Ossoff’s share of ‘Unsure’ respondents is also the highest of the three, at 16%.
President Trump continues to make waves in the worst way possible, even in a state he won last November. Among Georgians, only 43% approve of the President’s work thus far, while 55% disapprove, landing him at a net-approval of -12%.
So where does that leave the senate race today in the state?
While there’s still plenty of time between now and next year’s election, polls suggest Ossoff holds the advantage over many of his potential Republican opponents.
Trafalgar Group, a Republican polling organization, polled Ossoff against three potential Republican candidates; Mike Collins, Brad Raffensperger, and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Of the three, the closest race is between Ossoff and Collins, where Ossoff holds a five-point lead over the representative (48% - 43%).
Brad Raffensperger polls poorly against Ossoff, with the Democrat holding an eight-point lead over the Republican (46% - 38%). However, unlike the matchup with Collins, nearly double the share of respondents say they were either unsure or would vote for someone else.
Of the three, Marjorie “Jewish Space Lasers” Taylor Greene, polls the worst against Jon Ossoff, with the Democrat holding an 11-point lead over her (48% - 37%).
Perhaps amazingly, of the two polls conducted between Ossoff and Greene, this poll is the better of the two for Greene. Polling from AJC Politics has Ossoff well above 50% against Greene, with the race much closer when Governor Kemp is slotted in.
