Americans Sour on the Economy as Tariffs Take Hold
Even crime and immigration can’t keep Trump above water
Newly released polling from AP-NORC and Ipsos is shedding new light on Trump’s time in office, and to put it mildly, most Americans are not thrilled with the way things are going in the nation.
The share of Americans who believe the nation is on the wrong track has reached a new recent high of 76%, even surpassing the pre-inauguration high of 73%. The simple reason why so many Americans have rapidly soured on the US is a steep decline in Republicans believing the nation is heading in the right direction.
Part of that decline comes from the impending economic downturn that is slowly hitting the wallets of Americans a little more each day, and part of it likely stems from the very public display of political violence that happened in Utah to Mr. Kirk.
AP-NORC also found that Americans’ approval of the President’s handling of a variety of issues has hit new lows over the course of the year.
Trump’s strongest issue is crime, where he holds a net approval of minus 8%, down from the plus 8% he had on the issue back in August. Similarly, immigration is down to minus 13%, a notable decline from the minus 1% he had back in March.
These are traditionally strong issues for Trump, and even so he still finds himself underwater with the American people.
His net approval on the economy is down to minus 25%, lower than the minus 18% he had in March, despite a brief upturn in August. Likewise, Israel-Palestine, trade, and healthcare are all down from the start of this year, with Trump’s only improving metric being foreign policy, which rose slightly to end at minus 20%.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the numbers and see how the administration is faring.
