Americans Dislike Their Choices But Reject Violence
Newsom gains momentum while Vance struggles to lock down his own base
New polling from Overton Insights suggests the American people are not particularly thrilled about their political options, but also that many retch at the idea of political violence.
The poll asked the favorability of eight individuals, four Democrats and four Republicans, and found that Kamala Harris has the highest favorable of all options at 45%. That is followed by RFK Jr. at 42%, alongside both Biden and Vance at 40% each. However, none of them are above water on the net favorable front, as their unfavorables all outpace their respective favorables.
Zohran Mamdani is underwater among all respondents by eight points, but among Democrats he has a +26% favorability, though nearly half of Americans are unsure or do not know who the next NYC Mayor is.
Tucker Carlson and Steve Bannon find themselves at -9% and -24%, respectively, while Gavin Newsom has the highest net favorable among the batch at -4%.
The survey also asked whether Americans agree with the notion that it is acceptable to use violence against someone who holds opposing political views, with an overwhelming majority (89%) disagreeing with the idea.
There is very little variance between Republicans, Democrats, and Independents on this question, as those who agree it is acceptable to use violence against their ideological opponents ranges from 8% to 11%, with Republicans being slightly higher than their counterparts.
Let us check in on the presidential primary polling, who Democrats believe is the leader of their party, and how Vance and Newsom fare against one another.
